Wolfgang Van Halen and his band Mammoth WVH return to the road on Wednesday, Feb. 21, kicking off in St. Louis. It’s the beginning of a busy year for the group which will include its own headlining dates and an appearance at the Welcome to Rockville Festival on May 13, as well as opening slots for Metallica, Foo Fighters and Slash. Van Halen tells us that over the course of his career — which began with Van Halen in 2007 — he’s grown accustomed to performing in a variety of different sized venues:

“I’ve played everywhere at this point, every size venue. As long as there’s people there ready to have a good time and listen to music, that’s all that matters. If anything I tend to prefer the smaller venues because it’s more intimate and you get more of a connection with people than sort of playing people in when they’re walking around a stadium.” OUTCUE :26

The tour is in support of “Mammoth II,” the second album by Mammoth WVH. It was released last August and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hard Rock chart, with the singles “Another Celebration at the End of the World” and “I’m Alright” reaching the Top 10 on the Mainstream Rock chart.

In addition to his own album Van Halen played on the Grammy and Academy Award-nominated song “I’m Just Ken” from the soundtrack to the hit film “Barbie.”

Van Halen and his EVH guitar company recently released a new line of SA-126 guitars, which he’s been developing for the past two years.
