On Wednesday night, July 10, the Killers were playing London’s O2 Arena, coincidentally at the exact same time that England’s men’s soccer team were playing the Netherlands in the Semifinal of Euro 2024. The band paused their show to screen the dramatic final moments of England’s 2-1 win on the stage’s big screen. And at the final whistle, the Killers celebrated the big result by launching into their anthem “Mr. Brightside,” which was perfectly timed with a stream of confetti cannons filling the venue as the crowd roared for both England and the band. On their Instagram post recounting the show, the Killers wrote: “Tonight we played for England 🏴!”
In other “Mr. Brightside” news, the Killers’ 2004 hit just received two different distinctions from Guinness World Records, setting records for both the longest stay on the U.K. singles chart by a group as well as the most cumulative weeks on the U.K. chart for one song. (People)
