Sting kicks off his eight-show “My Songs” Las Vegas residency tonight (October 29th) at the Colosseum At Caesars Palace. The new production, “presents a compendium of Sting’s songs with dynamic, visual references to some of his most iconic videos and inspirations.” His latest album, The Bridge, is set for release on November 19th.

We caught up with Sting, who was quick to point out that rock stars cooling their heels in “Sin City” these days is a world away from how it was for musicians back in the 1970’s: “I think, y’know, the idea of a Vegas residency from the old days was very different to the reality now. Tom Jones and Engelbert Humperdinck would be stuck there for years (laughs) never getting out. This is a three-week pod, in which I do eight shows. But — it does give me my own room. This gives me the opportunity to explore a visual aspect to the songs that I haven’t done before.”

Sting told us the allure for him to play Vegas is the added production value the venue provides: “Each song will have its own ‘world.’ For example, the show opens with ‘Roxanne,’ me with an acoustic guitar, largely the way I wrote it in a hotel room in Paris — in some seedy hotel in Paris. So, we recreate Paris for that song and then instantly (snaps fingers), through protections and lights, we are in another world for the next song. There’s no furniture being moved — it’s all screens and projections, but it’s really state-of-the art, and quite stunning.”
