It seems as though New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio might’ve jumped the gun when describing Bruce Springsteen as a headliner for next month’s “Central Park Homecoming Concert” to be held on the Park’s Great Lawn. Last week, the Mayor joked, “(Springsteen) is beloved in New York City, in an extraordinary way, even though he happens to come from (New) Jersey. No one’s perfect.”
The TBA Central Park show will feature the semi-retired Paul Simon, Jennifer Hudson, and others artists still-to-be announced.
The ultra-reliable Backstreets.com quoted a source with inside knowledge stating, “Bruce agreed to make an appearance in a guest capacity, but he will not be a headliner for the show.”
The New York Times‘ Ben Sisario wrote, “Springsteen is expected to perform a duet with Patti Smith, according to a person briefed on the plans.”
Backstreets added: “We can’t confirm specifics, and no one really knows what Bruce is going to do until he does it, but that’s likely the level at which he will be involved.”
IN OTHER SPRINGSTEEN NEWS
According to several reports by reputable international fan outlets, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band are in negotiations for a string of European summer dates for 2022.
PinkCadillacMusic.it has posted that early word puts “The Boss” in in Florence, Italy on July 19th, 2022. Other reports claim Springsteen’s agents are scouting out possible shows in Spain. Other than his current limited Springsteen On Broadway run, no E Street Band dates have been officially announced.
During his recent appearance on CBS’s The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Bruce Springsteen talked about making music with many of the same people for most of his life: “The E Street Band — Steve (Van Zandt) goes back to when I was 16, Garry (Tallent) — 18, y’know, these guys were there for a long, long time. So I always tell people, I says, ‘Imagine this: People that you’re going (to) high school (with) right now, when you’re 70-years-old, those are the exact people you’ll be working with — and will have worked with them for the past 50 years.’ The only place that that happens is in rock n’ roll.”
