A planned six-part Prince documentary for Netflix has been in the works for over four years. But the Ezra Edelman-directed film is now apparently “dead in the water,” according to representatives for Prince’s estate. The Purple One’s reps are supposedly upset about the “dramatic” factual inaccuracies of the first cut of the documentary, along with “sensationalized” accounts of certain aspects of Prince’s life. According to sources with inside knowledge of the situation, Prince’s estate firmly believes that specific events had not been properly fact-checked, and that those claims of the documentary sensationalizing parts of the music legend’s life were met with opposition by Edelman, best known for directing the Oscar-winning documentary, O.J.: Made in America. Edelman has been working on the film for four years, recently turning in a 9-hour cut of the documentary, and news of the uncertain status of his work has apparently left the director “devastated.” (Variety)
