During Tenacious D’s concert in Sydney, Australia over the weekend, Kyle Gass made an inappropriate joke about the attempted assassination of Donald Trump. His bandmate Jack Black said he was “blindsided” by Gass’ words, and he immediately canceled Tenacious D’s tour and put the band’s future on hold. “I would never condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form,” Black said in a statement on Tuesday. “After much reflection, I no longer feel it is appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour, and all future creative plans are on hold. I am grateful to the fans for their support and understanding.”
Australian Senator Ralph Babet responded to Gass’ comments by demanding the country “revoke [the band’s] visas and deport them immediately.” Gass, who was dropped by his talent agency Greene Talent, apologized for his remarks. “The line I improvised onstage Sunday night was highly inappropriate, dangerous and a terrible mistake. I don’t condone violence of any kind, in any form, against anyone. What happened was a tragedy, and I’m incredibly sorry for my severe lack of judgment.” (Variety)
