• One of four songs written solely by Christine McVie for Rumours, “You Make Loving Fun” stands out as the most conventional love song on the album, which reflected the breakup of relationships within the band.
• The song was the fourth hit single from Rumours, hitting Number Nine on the Billboard Hot 100 and Number 45 on the U.K. pop chart.
• At the time of Rumours, Stevie Nicks split with longtime boyfriend Lindsey Buckingham (which he documented in Rumours‘ angry “Go Your Own Way”), Christine and John McVie split up, and Mick Fleetwood‘s marriage went sour.
• Nevertheless, Rumours was Fleetwood Mac‘s most popular album ever, spending 31 weeks at Number One on the Billboard 200 and launching five hit singles — an accomplishment unheard of in the mid- and late ’70s.

FAST FORWARD:

• Buckingham left Fleetwood Mac in 1987, and Nicks followed in 1992.
• The group reunited for a one-off performance of “Don’t Stop” at Bill Clinton‘s first inaugural celebration on January 19th, 1993, after Clinton used it as the theme song of his presidential campaign.
• Fleetwood published his memoirs in 1990 and rankled some members of the band with his frank accounts of the group’s behind-the-scenes life, including an affair he had with Nicks.
• The group reunited in 1997 for a live album and video called The Dance and a reunion tour. Christine McVie has since retired from the band on good terms.
• Fleetwood Mac was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.
