Flint’s Classic Rock – 103.9 The Fox

An official trailer has just been shared for the forthcoming documentary, Electric Lady Studios: A Jimi Hendrix Vision. The film will trace the storied history of the fabled New York City recording studio that was designed by Jimi Hendrix himself. The documentary will feature interviews with Hendrix’s longtime engineer, Eddie Kramer, who helped Jimi design and build Electric Lady, along with Steve Winwood, bassist Billy Cox, and other artists involved in creating the studio. The film will document the creative journey from Hendrix’s initial conceptualization of the studio to the construction of the iconic recording space, with Electric Lady Studios opening only a month before Hendrix’s death in September of 1970.

“The construction of Electric Lady was a nightmare,” Kramer says in the trailer. “We were always running out of money. Poor Jimi had to go back out on the road, make some money, come back, then we could pay the crew.” Electric Lady Studios: A Jimi Hendrix Vision is screening in select theaters throughout the U.S. and U.K. in August and September.
