Duran Duran singer Simon Le Bon was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire on Saturday. Le Bon’s M.B.E. was announced as part of King Charles’ 2024 Birthday Honours. The prestigious honor was bestowed on Le Bon for his contributions to both music and charity. Le Bon said that the announcement of his M.B.E. was “an incredible and totally unexpected honor.” Le Bon studied drama at the University Of Birmingham, where Duran Duran formed in 1978. The new wave pop band embarked on a celebrated music career that eventually got them inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2022. “It is fitting that the honor has been awarded not just for my role in music, but also for the work I’ve been fortunate to be involved with outside the band for some of the causes I believe in,” Le Bon said.
