Bon Jovi‘s 2000 hit, “It’s My Life” has reached a whopping one million views on YouTube, marking the band’s first video to reach the milestone number. uDiscovermusic.com reported that although the track was originally issued on the band’s Crush album, the Mark Isham-directed video wasn’t uploaded to YouTube until June 16th, 2009.
Bon Jovi songs — most of them co-written with Richie Sambora — have long been considered among the most inspirational in rock. A while back, Bon Jovi looked back on writing the lyrics for 2000’s “It’s My Life,” and explained why he believes it became an anthem: “It had been a while since we had a band record. Almost four years. That was me at the time. And that was all it was. It was very self-indulgent. Unbeknownst to me, anyone — everyone wants to think their in control of their life. And that song became an anthem for the every man or the athlete, or the kid that’s rebelling against his folks. Who knew? But when it comes from that pure place, people then make it their own.”
