  • “Foxey Lady” was the opening track on the original version of the Are You Experienced album that was released in the U.K. It was later replaced by “Purple Haze” after that song became a hit.
  • Jimi Hendrix chronicler John Robertson described “Foxey Lady” as a “feast of sexual innuendo and guitar distortion, set to a slowed version of Wilson Pickett‘s Memphis soul beat.”
  • “Foxey Lady” was one of the first songs recorded for Are You Experienced, shortly after the first singles “Hey Joe” and “Purple Haze.”
  • The Jimi Hendrix Experience played “Foxey Lady” at their U.S. debut gig at the Monterey International Pop Festival on June 18th, 1967. Hendrix’s musical and performance pyrotechnics — including playing his guitar with his teeth and lighting it on fire — made his set one of the standout performances of the festival.
  • The following month, the Experience was on the road opening for the Monkees, a publicity stunt that was arranged by their manager and producer, former Animals bassist Chas Chandler. The group eventually left the tour after eight gigs, but they received the attention Chandler hoped for.
  • “Foxey Lady” peaked at Number 67 on the Billboard Hot 100.
  • The album peaked at Number Five on the Billboard 200, and at Number Two in the U.K.

  • Hendrix was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992.
  • Experience Hendrix, a label run by his half-sister Janie and dedicated solely to Hendrix’s work, releases Hendrix’s albums.
