In an Instagram statement on Monday (September 16), REO Speedwagon made the surprising announcement that the band will stop touring due to infighting within the group. The disagreement stems from bassist Bruce Hall’s extended absence from the group following his recent back surgery, with frontman Kevin Cronin continuing to tour as Speedwagon in Hall’s absence as Matt Bissonette filled in on bass on their run of summer shows. The group’s statement says that, “Due to this complex situation, irreconcilable differences arose between Bruce and Kevin. So, it is with great sadness that we announce REO Speedwagon will cease touring effective January 1, 2025.”
The band’s co-founding keyboardist Neal Doughty had already decided to stop touring with the group back in 2023. The three Speedwagon members paid tribute to their fans while ending their statement, “Neal, Kevin, and Bruce thank their fans for all their years of loyal support and for giving back to the band such wonderful memories that will remain with each of them forever.” (Ultimate Classic Rock)
