Flint’s Classic Rock – 103.9 The Fox

Shifty Shellshock, the frontman of Los Angeles rap rock band Crazy Town, has died at the age of 49. According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, Shellshock – whose real name was Seth Binzer – died at home on Monday, June 24. The cause of the musician’s death is still under investigation. Crazy Town is best known for their Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hit, “Butterfly,” which reached the top of the charts on March 24, 2001 and remained on the charts for 23 weeks. The runaway success of “Butterfly” helped propel their debut album, The Gift Of Game, to sell over 1.6 million copies. Shellshock co-founded Crazy Town in 1992 with Bret Mazer. Shellshock struggled with substance abuse throughout much of his life, eventually appearing on reality television series’ VH1’s Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew in 2008, and VH1’s Sober House from 2009 to 2010. He is survived by his kids Halo, Gage, and Phoenix. (Billboard)
