Flint’s Classic Rock – 103.9 The Fox

Coming in 2024 is “Revolucion to Roxy,” a memoir by Roxy Music guitarist Phil Manzanera. The book will encompass not only music but his fascinating family history, starting in 1492 with the expulsion of Sephardic Jews from Spain and tracing Manzanera’s story through his days as a rock musician. Manzanera tells us that he wanted to write something that went deeper than the average rock ‘n’ roll autobiography:

“Well, it’s just a series of anecdotes, really, about my life. You know, I was brought up in Cuba and Hawaii and Venezuela, sent to England, leave my sort of high school, join Roxy a year later. So I don’t come from an art school background like all the others. I have the Latin thing. My mother was from Columbia, Barenkia. I speak Spanish. So it’s, um, just where my family comes from is quite interesting. There’s obviously stuff about Roxy and all that, but it’s not really about that.” :33

“Revolucion to Roxy” is due out March 22nd. The book will also feature more than 100 photographs.

Manzanera has been busy on the music front of late, too. He and Roxy Music saxophonist Andy MacKay released a joint album, “AM PM,” during October and re-released their 1989 holiday album “Christmas” the following month.

Roxy Music was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame during 2019. The group last toured in 2022 to celebrate the band’s 50th anniversary.
