Kansas has just announced its 48-date, 50th anniversary “Another Fork In The Road Tour.” The band kicks things off on June 2nd in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at the Benedum Center for the Performing Arts and criss-crosses the continent, before finally wrapping on May 21st at Louisville, Kentucky’s Iroquois Amphitheater. Additional dates will soon be announced.
Leading Kansas these days are co-founders Phil Ehart on drums and guitarist Rich Williams, who are supplemented by singer-keyboardist Ronnie Platt and keyboardist Tom Brislin.
Richard Williams said in a statement announcing the dates:
Our entire career has been a winding journey. Whether it’s been the “original” lineup signing with Don Kirshner, years on the bus, touring with Queen, worldwide success peaking with Leftoverture & Point of Know Return, the valleys of the 90’s and “dinosaur bands” losing steam, various lineup changes, to our most recent “rebirth” and success of our latest new music over the last eight years; there have been several forks in the road of that journey. This 50th Anniversary Tour and release will represent that journey and the forks along that road.
Phil Ehart looked back over 45-years-ago and recalled to us when he and Kansas first realized that Leftoverture just might be a hit: “When we heard ‘. . . Wayward Son,’ once it was finished and listened back to, we all kinda looked at each other and went, ‘Y’know, this could be something very special. This could possibly do something no other song has done.’ Of course, as soon as it got out there, it just exploded. So, we had a little bit of a feeling, but there was no slam dunks with Kansas, ever. There never has been. We did feel very strongly (laughs) about ‘Dust In The Wind’; we thought, ‘That should do well on the radio’ — and of course, it did.”
