After two long years being off the road due to the pandemic and hip surgery — and only days after relaunching his “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” tour — Elton John has been sidelined by Covid. The “Rocket Man” was forced to postpone his two Dallas shows set for Tuesday and Wednesday — January 25th and 26th — at the American Airlines Center.

A statement posted on the venue’s official website reads: “It is with great regret that the ‘Farewell Yellow Brick Road’ tour dates in Dallas set for Tuesday, January 25 and Wednesday, January 26 must be postponed due to Elton recently testing positive for COVID-19. Fortunately, Elton is fully vaccinated and boosted, and is experiencing only mild symptoms.”

Elton posted on his Instagram Stories feed:

Hi everyone, wanted to send a message to let you know that I have contracted COVID and so have had to reschedule my shows in Dallas. If you have tickets, you’ll be contacted with the new dates really soon.

It’s always a massive disappointment to move shows and I’m so sorry to anyone who’s been inconvenienced by this but I want to keep myself and my team safe.

As always, thank you for all your love and support and I can’t wait to see you all soon.

Elton John expected to be back onstage on Saturday (January 29th) at North Little Rock, Arkansas’ Simmons Bank Arena.

Upon announcing his “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” tour back in 2018, Elton was asked why the trek needed to be such a long and major outing: “My fans have always turned up to my concerts. It means a lot to me. I’ve been touring since 1970 — that’s 48 years, and I’ve always managed to sell out concerts. So, it’s a way of saying thank you, and it’s a way of going out with a bang. I don’t wanna go out with a whimper — I wanna go out with a big bang.”

As it stands now, Elton John will be on the road through the end of July 2023.
