Bruce Springsteen is reportedly in talks to sell his his recorded music and publishing catalogue to Sony Music. Variety reported, “While the album catalog deal is nearly done, some sources say, the publishing catalog remains in play.” Billboard estimated “The Boss’” entire package could be worth between $330 million and $415 million,

According to the report, “Selling the rights to their music is anathema to many artists, but as they reach or pass standard retirement age and begin estate planning, a sale is an attractive option — especially today, as song catalogs are hitting previously unimagined valuations and artists consider the realities of leaving their heirs with a valuable but cumbersome asset; song catalogs in particular require extensive management to optimize their value.”

Although Bruce Springsteen is by far the most beloved and famous living American rock star, he says he always dealt with fame and adoration as a byproduct of being a popular artist: “As a term, I wasn’t. . . it’s one of the things you pursued, but I was really interested in sort of where the job I was doing intersected with the people I was playing for, people I was writing about, my own story. Those were the things that kind of interest me. There were a lotta, lotta rock stars. I don’t mind being that thing — but I don’t wanna just be that.”
